Need ATAP help ASAP!!!!!!!!!
This is my problem: I get the "unable to find Autotap sdcreen, and the codes are as follows:
COM 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9 all are "No COM port found or in use by another application"
COM 3 "No Auto Tap module found"
I have tried it on all three cars (2000 Z28, 2002 Z28, and 2002 Z71), and it does the same thing on all three. I have checked all cables, etc, and all is tight. The one oddball thing was I had to buy an adapter, my RS port has 25 pins -vs- ATAPs 9, but it calls for this in the ATAP manual. What else can I check? Maybe something in the computer. I know that it is loaded correctly, because I can playback old logs, but can't make new ones. Please advise ASAP, thanks, Shawn

I go to Control Panel -> System -> System properties -> Hardware -> Device manager -> ports ->ECP Printer port -> port settings
It is a LPT1 port, but I can change it to a LPT2 or LPT3 port. I let it run its own diagnostics, and it says all is ok, but I still get the same messages at ATAP startup, on all vehicles.

They use a serial port which is 9 pin. If you do not have one then you might have USB ports and would have to spend about $50 for a USB to serial convertor cable. Most bew computers no longer use 9 pin serial and now use USB but your PCM scanner still is using the old comm RS232 logic.
25 pin connector is strictly for printers or like some image scanners and is not a comm port.
An old "thrasher" notebook. I paid $200 for a used Thinkpad. Works great, and I don't have to worry about busting my $2000 notebook.
