LS1 edit R232 jack?

LS1 edit R232 jack? Is the jack on the computer side included with edit, is that something standard on a laptop or is that something you have to buy somewhere else?

Re: LS1 edit R232 jack? LS1Edit comes with a PCM cable, a "black box", and a 9-Pin RS-232 cable. The PCM cable plugs into the data port under your steerign wheel, then the black box. Then the RS-232 cable plugs into the black box and into the back of your computer.
If your computer does not have a port that the RS232 can plug into, (look for a hidden door on the back of a notebook), then you will need a USB convertor available at most computer stores. I'm not sure if a USB convertor will work though. Someone else will have to chime in on that.

Re: LS1 edit R232 jack? Most older, and many newer laptops, have the 9-pin male plug on the back (RS232). This is where the cable for LS1_Edit would plug in.
Some of the newer laptops do not have an RS232 port, they have the Universal Serial Bus port. You can purchase a USB to RS232 adapter at most computer and electronics stores (Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc).
What I recommend people do (if they need a USB to RS232 adapter) is to buy one locally, and take it back if it doesn't work. USB is a crap shoot (IMHO), and you are just as likely to get a unit that works with your laptop & operating system as you are to get one that doesn't work. Buying locally allows an easy exchange if it doesn't work.
I have personally used the Belkin F5U103 with the LT1Edit software and it worked fine. I do know that there are people here using the USB to RS232 adapters with LS1Edit.
