Dealer upgraded computer programing I took my car in for some warranty work the other day, one thing on the list was a hesitation the car has between 2nd and 3rd gear (i have a 6 speed). I got no codes to pop up, so they consulted GM and they have issued a computer upgrade for the transmission and they also released one for the fuel curve to reduce spark knock (which i have a lot of). So far, feels like all the pinging is gone and feels like they added 15 h.p. Anyone have any encounters with this?

Re: Dealer upgraded computer programing I had a computer update on my car about year ago for shift points and firmness. It’s a 98 a4, I complained about abnormal shifts. I would think if they change the timing you would lose HP. Extra timing can increases the chances of pining. Maybe you had hella pining, the decrease in timing could have helped. I also had a false maf code they updated my pcm for.
I think there are a lot of updates from gm but the dealer will not do anything unless you have the SES showing or you complain about the problem that’s in the list. They just don’t give the updates to anyone.
I think all the updates are on a cd that is send to the dealer from gm. I would like to get my hands on one of those cd's and the hardware they use. Better yet an emissions free pcm tune

Re: Dealer upgraded computer programing I'm a GM tech and we flash pcm all the time. It,s just a tune adjuustment, emissions fix or an engineer f/u fix. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

It would help to know someone. Factory pays nothin' to do' em so alot of places won't go out of their way for nobody. I suggest you keep looking for a decent GM shop they do exsist.

Re: Dealer upgraded computer programing I am a GM tech also, and i would like to advise be careful before you go in for a PCM update because new programming can lose performance, depending on what the problem is being revised. Also reflash will eliminate any custom tuning you may have installed!Research exactly what latest updates are addressing before going in for work. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
