Swaping pcm's

Swaping pcm's
Are 2 pcm's of the same model year interchangeble?
I am considering a tranny swap and my car as well as the other car are 2000's, his being an auto. Can we swap computers and get by with just flashing the vin's?
Thanks
Eric

Re: Swaping pcm's
Remember that A4 vs. M6 wiring harnesses are different. Yes, the PCM will run your car, that's not a problem - they don't overlap pins or anything like that. However, your harness won't have what he needs (and vice-versa). So you may need to swap harnesses as well. It's easier going A4 -> M6 than it is to go the other direction (well, to a 4L60E).
As for the VIN, be careful there. I don't know if you can *just* flash a VIN in these LS1 computers, or if you have to flash the whole file. I think a Tech2 might require you to enter the VIN, and then it assembles and flashes the whole file based on that VIN (M6 or A4). So, if you have your A4 VIN flashed on an M6 PCM, well, you just made an A4 PCM again.

Re: Swaping pcm's
I have a 2000 camaro m6 and I changed it with a 1999 a4 computer. Yes you do have to put in a new wireing harness to go from a m6 to a a4. The only problem was a low idle, so I raised the idle screw up and fixed that. I still have a slight surging problem while in gear and at a stop light with the air on and the fans running. It stops surging when I put it in neutrol or turn the ac off. Hope this helps.
