Default tune theory question....fat = more timing?

Would it be better to be relatively rich side with lots of timing, or 'lean and mean' but not as much timing?

Lets hear your guys thoughts.

If your talking peak HP, then you want slightly lean with as much advance as possible.

If you would like to have your car for the next 20 years, then go slightly rich with as much advance as possible.

If you want Nitrous, go rich with about 1 deg retard per 50 shot.

If you want Boost, go pig rich with around 20 deg advance (I think <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" /> )

So would a timing range at WOT (4500-6500rpm) of 27-31 deg with a A/F of 13.4 be a optimum tuning setting?

Yes, those would be very good settings for optimal power.

On the dyno, you will run a little richer than you will on the street, so it is generally accepted to dial the car in at around 13.0 a/f. 13.4 on the dyno may be a little too lean once you get it on the street.

Understand though, that it is not a universal setting. Some cars may see more power from a 12.8 a/f. It depends on the car, but on the dyno, most find their "sweet spot" between 12.8 to 13.2 a/f at peak horsepower.

Thanks NoGo! Since I am tuned in on the dyno around 13.4, I will just adjust the MAFT on the street and varying weather.
