PCM tuning vs Warranty and data logging?'s>>>
Anyways here it is:
I am looking at getting my pcm tuned for a little better performance, such as a/f adjustments, torque management deletion, etc etc. I have a new car and must not void the warranty. Simple answer is dont tune the pcm..... but..... well, yeah right!
The particular unit I am looking at is the new Diablo tuner, similar to the ls1edit, but seems easier to use for a beginner like me. This unit is supposed to record all stock settings and store it. Supposedly, when using this unit, if your car has to go in for warranty work, you can reflash the pcm back to the stock tuning the car came with, which the unit recorded when first plugged in.
the big question, is there any way for the dealer to tell if the pcm has been tampered with?? What is it? Supposedly reflashing the pcm with the stock tuning leaves no traces behind which could possibly void your warranty??? Is this true???
Does our pcm data log information? If so, what info, just codes, or just normal operating data. Is there any date coding? Will they see something amiss if I went back to stock programming and brought the car in for service?
If someone was really interested in looking into my pcm, like if the engine blew, and they dig and dig deep enough, is there any trace of evidence?
Thanks everyone!!
There is ALWAYS some way to tell if a flash rom has been tampered; it just depends on who's looking.
Really though, the odds that your local GM Mechanic finding it are 100000000000000000/1
If you are really panicked about it, just buy another PCM and program that one. That way you never have to worry about it and are guaranteed not to get hassled by the dealer or the new ODBII emmissions tests.
Good Luck,

hope this helps.
GM has the tech 2 it check the checksums for each segment and if one address has been changed it will show on the tech 2. the segment will show an x if tampered with, BUT LS1 edit is invisible to the tech 2 it showed ok. In theory the dealer could tell if it has been changed but only if the value of a table was changed for that exact vin and they cross checked it but that is highly unlikely. LS1 edit will check out stock but not sure about predator, doubt it. HPP3 from what I've heard does not return all values to stock and it does show that the values in the checksum have been tampered with, probably even after its been returned to stock. this is what ive heard from a gm tech and seen through my own experience.
hope this helps.

Cool! This is more info yet I never heard of.
The Diablo unit is supposed to reflash the pcm back to the original stock tuning it copied when first plugged in. Does this have anything to do with checksums, etc etc etc?
Will there be anything different btw when the pcm was originally stock, to when it is reflashed back to stock?
