Default Pinging with lite throttle???

I have had a problem with off idle pinging for a while now so I got EFILive to scan my PCM, its more complicated then I thought it would be – I’m a total newbe. One of the things I noticed is with the scan is that my timing jumps to 40*+ with lite throttle, about 10%, and the pinging has hit 10* . The pinging will disappear with more throttle and at WOT I have just a little KR.
I was running rich and had the PCM codes for too rich.
Is the timing jumping to max at lite throttle normal? Is anyone else getting this?

Default Re: Pinging with lite throttle???

Setting the rich codes usually indicates a hardware/sensor problem, or tuning not matched to the hardware.

If you are setting the rich SES lights for both banks, I would start looking into those sensors that would cause the car to change to VE mode, or alter the a/f significantly.

MAF Boofed
IAT Sensor Disconnected
Coolant Sensor Disconnected
MAP? (not sure if this sould do it)

When did the pinging start?

Your timing going into the 40's at partthrottle, is normal. Typically, without going into too much detail, your timing will start high and work its way down as you get to WOT conditions (40 to around 27).

Do you have a custom program in?

Have you installed anything that requires tuning of the PCM (ie you went to larger injectors...)?
