Default Help please...voltmeter pegged out at 18

Don't know what happened, I was driving home from work, and all of a sudden the voltmeter maxed out. All of the idiot lights came on, my headlights got really bright, etc. What could be causing this? thanks....

check/repair replace the one red wire that goes to the alternator plug.. if it shorts or gets high resistance it will make the alternator overcharge.. i bet there is water/corrosion in the plug. check it out.

You can try the process of elimination troubleshooting system for this problem to isolate it. You can either pull out all fuses that load the electrical system down and put them back in one at a time until the meter pegs or just pull them out one at a time until the meter drops back to the normal level. When you see the change you troubleshoot that circuit as you normally would any other electrical problem
