I need help with this code!

A friend of mine has a 98 ta.It threw a P0440 which is evaporative emission system (EVAP) what does this mean?

Your EVAP system removes vapors from your fuel tank and injects them back into the intake via a shrader (I think) valve.

Anyhoo, it usually means that your gas cap is loose.

The system monitors/controlls gas tank pressure. If it notices the tank pressure getting out of whack it will set the Evap leak SES. (P0442)
I have never gotten the P0440, but I would defiantly look to the gas cap first.

Do a search in this forum. Someone posted a complete excerpt (from some super CD) on how the EVAP works and how to trouble shoot it.
