If you can find at the library or book store a first year book on Industrial Electronics it will pretty much give you all the basics on components and DC circuits and how transistors and gates work, plus probably a ton of formulas you'll never use. Maybe a local trade school or community college will have a book you can buy.Wow, just realized it's been 22 years since I took electronics.
