It fools the computer in thinking there is more or less air coming into the motor so that the computer delivers more or less fuel. This is used to fine tine your air fuel ratio. You get the most hp between 12.7 to 13. The higher the number the lean it is running. The lower the number the richer you are running. You would need access to a wide band sensor mounted in your exhaust to measure.

This is just a device for someone that can't tune with a laptop programming system. Some people like it because you just plug it in and set the switches. I think it is kind of a false sense of security.

Can't you go as lean as 13 or 14 in a non EFI car? I guess if you aren't running it for long periods of time you could.

yes, you can go that lean at WOT on an EFI Car, but most cars will make less power then with the added effect of increased cylinder temps

lean = power, but there's a limit... once you pass that limit then lean makes less power and eventually goes boom

My HP peaked at 12.8 for the most power. From there and higher (leaner) or lower (richer) gave me less power.

Good luck,

Al

its usually not a linear amount either...
12.5 down below peak tq...start to lean out at peak tq till peak hp...12.8
then start to richen up again back up to red line 12.5

How do you get the actual AFR for a given situation? When I take your multipliers and multiply them by the stoich ratio of 14.737 I get:

17.2 17.2....16.8 16.99

All numbers in 16-17 range.

Is that what the car is really running? There also is the table for fuel air mult but that would make it even higher.

Those numbers represent fuel to add... so it's a multiplier cause its' increasing fuel.. but to do the calculations treat them as divisors

Stoich/multiplier = commanded AFR

Thank you so much! I got this now:
12,56 12,56 12,56 12,56 12,56 12,56 12,56 12,56 12,56 12,56 12,56 12,56 12,72 12,86 12,72 12,56 12,46 12,46 12,46
Glad to be on the same page with everyone.

Would it be bad to run numbers closer to 1 or .9? I though the factory config was over rich.

I Have A Question I Bought My Car Last Year And The Guy Who Had It Before Me Had It Tuned By Speed Inc. And I Am Wondering If Once You Tune Does The Tuning Stay In The Computer Even When You Disconnect The Battery. And Is It Worth Going In A Retuning At Any Point. I Have A Diablo Programminer, And The Maf Hp In A Box, Is It Worth It?

Thanks
