Default Need help with timing issues. LS1 Edit experts inside please.

I am having problems with my timing dropping down to between 20 and 22 degrees with my naturally aspirated '01 A4 Z28. I also have a Yank PT-4400 converter. The timing has been set on LS1 Edit to 29 degrees in both octane tables.

My LS Edit tuner told me that he can't understand why the timing is being pulled back like it is. Is there possibly another table within LS1 Edit, possibly the HP vs. torque table, or somewhere else within Edit that something might have been missed and causing the computer to pull timing? I had my tuner lock the timing at 29 degrees at one point, and it stayed there. However, the bad thing about locking the timing is that it does not retard timing if there is knock sensed by the computer, which obviously could have adverse effect on the motor. Please see the two AutoTap logs listed below. This is killing my ET, and I'm stumped. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Now that is weird.. I just posted about this same thing. https://ls1tech.com/ubb/ultimatebb.p...;f=23;t=003439
I just had my air system andy rear O2 codes turned off today. It looks like you dropped 6-7 deg also. Did you do anything like I did? This is the first(and second) time I have ever heard of this. Maybe there is someone that can give expertise on this.
Later.

I think I'm going to clean the MAF frequency wires with a Q-Tip and some rubbing alcohol to make sure that they are perfectly clean. If they are dirty in any way this could explain the erratic readings on the O2's, timing, and also the fact that my tranny has been slipping on the 2-3 shift. BTW, I have a stock, de-screened MAF with stock MAF ends.

Thoughts?

Do you have any MAF values?

Update:

I cleaned the MAF frequence wires with rubbing alcohol and a few Q-Tips, and found them to be a little dirty. It doesn't take much dirt or residue being on the wires to make the computer's critical functions become erratic. I went out and Auto Tapped the car in my "private test spot". I couldn't ask for a more perfect run. O2's were around .890, timing was 29 to 30 degrees, the tranny shifted perfectly, and zero knock.

After I have made changes before with LS1 Edit, and Auto Tapped the car on the street, all has been well, so I'm not going to be convinced until I go to the track. I plan on going to HRP this Friday with my fingers crossed to hopefully confirm that the MAF frenquency wires being dirty was the problem.

I had a similar problem before. The car ran extremely rich O2's in the .940-.950 range and timing around 20 degrees. I cleaned the MAF wires with some spray contact cleaner and this solved the problem. After cleaning everything returned to optimal. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
