Default Dyno # before and after cam and headers. Disapointed.

I had my 2000 SS dynoed when I got it and made 329.8hp and 331.9 tq with a lid and a Random Tech catback. 10k miles later I added a comp. cam mac headers duels and a ported throttle body. Also have a Maft tranlater and Maf ends.
This time it dynoed 337hp and 356 tq. the torque looks good but I was very diapointed with the HP. We had it hooked up to a air fuel thingy in the exhast and it kept going to 10 at by 4500 rpms at WOT. I set the translater to 14% lean and it still went to 10. (No scaner)I was wandering if I went back to a full exhast if it would lean out and be better. He told me it as going pig rich.
Very disapointed for the money I spent. Anyinput would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

There is a 'feature' in these cars called catalytic converter overtemp....the PCM dumps fuel in (causing it to go VERY rich) to protect the cats from high temps, causing them to melt. The only way I know to disable this is with LS1 Edit.

You are fighting a losing battle if your pcm adjusting this, get LS1 Edit!

I dont have cats. I dont think I know enough to use the LS1 edit. I was hopping to send the computer somewhere close by and have it done.

what are the specs of the cam?

you should be making between 370 and 390 hp.

try to go to one of the sponsors here (MTI is in TX) and get it tuned there. it'll be the best money you spend on the car.

good luck!

Stock injectors?
MAFT is hooked up and working properly?
What are your Ltrims during steady state cruising and at idle?
Have you tried a different MAF sensor? Not too uncommon for them to be bad ya know.
No DTCs?

Yes stock injectors and I have the whispers ends, I put the stock ones back on and tried and lost 8-10 rwhp throughout the entire range installed the whispers ends got it right back. I think the translater is working but all I had to check it with was the exhast analizer to see if it was lean or rich. It showed 10 at 5000 rpm and above. I set the MAFT at 14% lean. till the same.
The cam is a comp. custom grind 222/226-561/569 @114ls.

If it's any consolation I too had a MAFT, turns out it was messing me up in more ways than one. It was causing me to lose power (found this out on the dyno) and it was causing my car to smoke and make more condensation than is normal.

Did you reset the MAFT at the dyno? If you reset your MAFT while you were at the dyno maybe your pcm did not have enough time to adjust to the new setting?

Greg is right...it sounds like the CAT overtemp is kicking in on you. I instantly picked up ~12 RWHP when I disabled this via LS1_Edit because I had a similar condition like yours.

Don't be afraid of LS1_Edit. It is very easy to use and once you made the mods you have it is money well spent to use it for fine tuning. Go in it with someone else to cut your cost in half. Good luck and don't be discouraged. It just takes perseverence at this stage!

We can edit your PCM up here in Lubbock, are you ever in the area? You'd have to email Jason or Trevor on the pricing and any more info though:

I think they are on all LS1s. I have it on my 1998 SS and I think the 1997 C5 share the same PCM.

When does this converter overtemp kick in???? I have a stock cam and am getting QTP headers soon. I have 304rwhp and 321rwtq right now, but I have sitting here a MAFT a LS6 intake and like I said soon to be QTP headers. So will this overtemp affect me too??

Have you tried disconnecting the maft and then dynoed it?

I might answer my own question.. but here it is.. How do you disable CAT overtemp via ls1 edit? Do you just go into the cat overtemp threshold table and set those temps really high? I have hooker jet hot coated lts..w/ true duals.. no cats.. I think I might have something to gain by disabling this. If I am wrong.. would somebody put me in my place?

Thanks,

Spyder

Bottom line: you need a custom computer program. If you do heads and cam, you have to do the tuning. I echo the person who mentioned Jayson at MTI. He custom programed my '94 Z28 after I put in the comp cam and had the stock heads massaged.

With the mods you have you really need more than the MAFT. If your Ltrims are off and I'll bet they are way off, you'll never get the A/F right. With A/F at 10 you have a lot of power left.
