I bought a hypertech power programmer for my 99 LS1 Z28 , i was happy with what it did thats not what i have a problem with, what i DO have a problem with is that car is totaled now, and i bought another 99 LS1 but i cant use my Hypertech because it keeps telling me i have an invalid vin.. This car has long been Towed away, so basically im gettin that" We cant help you" thing from the customer service, But i KNOW There is a way to reset these things to factory defaults, anyone know how to do this or know someone who knows someone who can give me some tips or clues? If not i've got a 350 dollar paper weight

As far as I know, the only way for you to be able to use your Hypertech again is to upload your tuned program from you totalled cars computer. Otherwise, it just won't work.

I thought, in a case such as yours, you can tell them what happened and you can send it back. For (I don't remember how much $$) they can reprogram your HPP.

It's actually very simple to do... With the right tools.
Think... What does the HPP lock to? The VIN.
What does the PCM have in it? The VIN.
What can a dealership Tech2 with the GM SPS program? The VIN.
Using a Tech2, program the offending VIN in to a PCM. Then hook up the HPP, "Return To Stock", then use the Tech2 to restore the *real* VIN and stock program.
If you have a tuner program in the PCM, it will be erased by this method. The Tech2 can only reflash to stock.
You must also have the right PCM model year to do this.
Err, you also gotta have a Tech2 with the SPS, or the Ease programming package (at $1800). Which is my problem. I don't have either of them.
Last price I heard from Hypertech to do this was in the $350 range.
