Default Fiew LS1 Edit questions and tuning

Ok I have a 98 M6. And when I do the h/c combo coming up I want to delete the EGR system and the Air pump (if possible w/o issues) So If I go with the LS6 intake with no EGR would it be a good idea to copy a timing table from 2001+ car (them bump it up a little)? I figure the difference in timing tables is due to the lack of EGR correct? Last time i turned off my EGR I got alot more KR on daily driving.
And if I can turn off the Air pump w/o issues what all do i have to do in Edit? And after the Air pupm is off and EGR deleted what all can I remove off the car? Sorry about the compound question LOL
Thanks for any help -Tim 98z

Tim,

I don't think that this would work, as the 2001+ cams are different then the '98s. Unless you are going to go with a 2001+ stock cam in the car.

The timing table difference is probably due to a few things...most important is probably the difference in the cam grinds.

I would remove the EGR and the airpump, (pull all of that stuff off and go with block off plates on the headers), correct the codes in Edit, and play with timing on the dyno after you get the part-throttle and WOT fueling figured out. (nice run-on sentence <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> )

Roger that. My main question for the timing i guess was what would be a better baseline timing to start with. I know ill have to weak for my car specifically. The 2001 or the 1998. Since i will have no where near either of tose two cams. Basically is either of the timing maps stock better for a h/c car that the other for a baseline map?

If you remove the EGR on your car, and start pinging, you are going to have to drop some of the parthrottle timing. (some cars ping, some don't)

You are correct in regards to the EGR. The EGR slows the combustion event, and allows timing to be taken much higher.

A 98-00 timing table is better for a h/c car. The table is more aggressive with more WOT timing.

Your best bet, in my opinion, is to stick with the timing table that you have and just make a reduction at part-throttle timing.

Take a look at an 01 or 02 timing table, and compare to your table. You will see a canyon that travels diagnal across the timing table on the 01-02 table when compared to yours. A small reduction in timing comparative to your KR along this 'canyon' should take care of your pinging issues.

Good Luck,
Kevin
