The only accurate way to know if the car is richer or leaner than desired it to use a wideband O2 sensor. Unless you have the ability to change the PCM calibrations (ie. tuning) shooting for 0 is not necessarily a good thing. If you are at 3% the car needs more fuel than GM intended and it is doing its job. There are reasons for shooting for 0 or a negative value but that assumes you can change either the MAF tables or the IFR tables.
