Default Bad turn signal switch?? Help please!!

Here are the symptoms. Both green turn signal dash lights stay on. When I turn the right turn signal on it works properly (blinks off and on) but the left light stays on. Visa versa too. All external turn signal lights and emergency lights work fine and illuminate only when the switches are in the on position.

Also, the blue high beam dash light stays on. When I click on the high beams it goes off. When I click on the low beams it goes back on. It works *** backwards but the external heads lights work fine.

I have been asking around and the answer I get is the turn signal switch in the steering column is bad.

Anyone ever have a bad TS switch and what were your symptoms? I just want to be re-assured before I rip the steering column apart.

Any thoughts?
TIA Tom

Swap the turn signal bulbs from side to side and see if the problem moves...

It sounds like a bad bulb to me...

The symptoms are equal on the left and right. And what about the blue high beam light? Why would a bad turn signal bulb cause the blue high beam light to act up?

OK, now I understand what you're saying... Also, I overlooked the part about the high beam indicator before.

Hmmm... I know you had a lot of the wiring out doing your cage install, but I can't imagine what would cause those symptoms you're having.

Have you checked all of the fuses?

There are lots of different failures. What you are describing does sound like a faulty multi-fuction switch. I always confirm this by testing affected circuits at the switch. But have you recently replaced a bulb? If you got a 3057 where a 3157 should be or vice/versa it will back feed the circuit & cause these problems.( only turn sigs.) The beam select does sound like the multi-fuction switch.

Thanks wrencher. I did not change any bulbs. I did have the instrament panel apart. Circuit board and all but changed nothing. All I did was to cover some of the holes so the abs inop, etc lights did not shine through. I was very careful and gentle with it.

The steering wheel and steering column was laying on the floor for 2 months during a 10 point cage install. The turn signal lever could have been bumped or jarred during this time.

I'm going to change the multi purpose switch.

Anyone else ever had a bad turn signal switch. If so, what was your symptoms?

TIA
Tom

Tom, what the hell do you need turn signals for anyway? <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" />
