Default How to create a pivot table?

OK I'm trying to read up and learn how to tune my Hawk. I've been going through this site:

http://ls1edit.slowcar.net/tuning.html

In there they talk about creating a pivot table. And I quote:

"When you are done logging you need to export your data to a CSV and open in it excel. Here we will make another pivot table. You need to create a column with g/cyl (as shown how above), and you need a column containing spark retard and rpm also. You will use these three items to make a pivot table. Scale the table with g/cyl on the x axis and rpm on the y axis. Put spark retard in the middle and set it's mode to average. You should group the axis along the same lines as they are grouped in the PCM."

Could someone explain in a little more detail how to setup a pivot table? Is this done in excel or Autotap?

Thanks Guys,
Mike

Excel.....load raw data into spreadsheet... highlight all the data and go to "DATA" and scroll down to "Pivot table and pivot table chart" follow the directions and you will end up with a empty box with columns and rows on the spread sheet with another box to the right of it with all the column headings/data. You can drag the column headings into the box and display the data in a multitude of ways. It is hard to explain in here.... you need to create one and experiment with it to get the data displayed the way to want. Basically it is a simple way to chart/display multiple columns and rows of data. It can be frustrating at first if you are excel self/taught but you will get it eventually <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

I've been playing around with them but I don't understand how this table is supposed to be valuable to me. I mean lets say I record 7 PIDs in ATAP. I want to look at and compare 3 of them. I can look at indiviuals columns, but the pivot table makes me select rows as well. The display is just a bunch of.... stuff. Am I doing this right? How can I display it in a useful manor?

Thanks for your help,
Mike

Check this guys Autotap analysis sheet he has created. It is a form of pivot table but very fancy with some VB code as well. http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/nbm_ws...ase.yahoo.com/ Download the autotap analysis version 2. Basically just another tool to work with a large data base of info and easily sort it.

Thanks J, that was a great file. Extremely helpful. I'll play with that and see if I can figure this whole thing out. That link was very much appreciated.
