Default PCM requirements for LS1 swap

I'm putting an LS1 in my 88 RX7. My question is about getting the right PCM, the mods I'm planning are LS6 intake, 243 ported heads, F13 cam, and Flowtech LT's. I would need to tune any pcm to my engine, so is there any advantage for me to get a howell pcm with no egr/vats/rear o2 for $200 and then tuning it. opposed to getting a stock pcm and tuning it? thanks for any insight.

if it's 200 bux for the tuning AND PCM then that's not a bad price, but the PCM alone can be had for less... turning off codes and such is easy to do w/any of the available tuning suites.

Keep in mind that 98 PCMs are the oddball... if possible you'll want to go with a 99+ LSX PCM

The 98s are a popular choice for hybrid's like this since several companies offer premade wiring harnesses, but if you can get a 99+ PCM and a 99+ wiring harness, your tuning options increase significantly.

^^^ Yes, just need to change a few sensors... temp sensor is the only one that jumps to mind... and Knock sensors I think

there are several tuning options out there for 98s so it's not like you can't tune using a 98 PCM.... but the 98 tuning options currently are much more limited (since they were a one off year, hard to justify custom OS's for them)

Lots of options out there all the major full tuning suites support 98s now, just custom OS's aren't quite out yet for them yet (due to limited # of cars)

HP Tuners supports 98s as well as EFI
