Default short in egr

My check engine light is on and when i check the code it says that there is a short in the egr. Would this code make the car run poorly? And how would i go about fixing this short? Thanks

You probably need to replace the EGR soleniod. The chance of actually having a wiring harness short is slim. It cound affect driveability if the valve is stuck open.

i can't remember , i had speedworks check it a while ago. I have a vortech blower so it could be the wires running to the egr since i had to splice them when i put the blower on, but i don't think that is the problem cause i redid all the splicing in an attempt to get the code to stop, but it didn't. I think that the performance of the car was affected because my trap speeds were very low the other day at the dragstrip.

How about a little basic electrical troubleshooting theory? An electrical circuit needs a LOAD. If there is no load a SHORT is the result. A fuse better BLOW or some wires are going to start burning up and your going to have an electrical fire under your hood. Shorts quickly result in OPENS. That's what happens when a SHORT blows a fuse or if there is no fuse a wire and insulation burn up. Did the DTC actually say there is a short in the EGR circuit. I doubt it because the scan tool can't find shorts and opens. It monitors sensors, solenoids, etc. to find out whether or not a device follows a command when told to do so by the PCM. If a handshake isn't received when a command is sent the PCM sets a DTC. If you did some wiring you need to go back over your solder and crimp joints to be sure only wires that are intended to touch do so and NO wires come into contact with GROUND(metal) other than RETURN wires.

I believe it does this my monitoring the current draw on the various loads. A good example of this is skip-shift eliminators. You can make your own with a resistor, but if you don't use the right amount of resistance, the PCM throws a SES. Just the fact that you can't unplug the skip shift solenoid proves this as well, since there is no feed-back to the PCM.
