Default 255mph shift points in Performance shift mode?? and other concerns

I know this subject has been beaten like a dead dog...but I have to touch on it again.

I have been slowly learning ls1edit and I have some questions especially about the 255mph shift points that are displayed in the "perf mode shift speed" tab.

Can someone explain a couple of things to me.

What dictates a peformance shift vs hot and normal if they are all taking place at WOT?

I have also noticed if you change values inside the "tab" vs the numbers on the screen they do not bump/matchup once you view them inside the table.

I.E if you set your mph for your 1-2 shift at 46mph on the main screen, then inside the Normal mode shift speed & Hot normal shift speed tabs will display a different number that doesnt correspond with the number you entered on the main "a4 shift speed" screen.

I have had luck changing my shift points, it seems most of the changes have come from mph changes rather than rpm inputs though.

With the above said..I have read that a shift change cannot take place until both the MPH and RPM threshholds have taken place. So in all reality you could set it up for 20mph and until the motor reached 6200 or the entered rpm it wouldnt shift?? This does not seem to be the case...it seems to be picking the mph # for making the shift reagrdless of the rpm input.

I am going to play around today some and see If I can put some since into this. Im going to input a 3000rpm shift rpm for the 1-2 and leave the 49 mph shift speed current. This has been making me shift at about 6000-6100. I have 2.73's if your wondering. If it shifts at 6100 like it has been..I know it works from mph vs rpm.

Thanks

First, 255 mph is like saying "don't shift at all, keep it winding up".

Next, on older (LT1) cars, there was a Performance Mode button / mode, that increased the partial throttle shift points. This button was only implemented in the '94-'95 Trans Ams. All others were 'stuck' in Normal mode, and the Performance table is ignored. I do not know if you can simply hook up a momentary switch to one of the leads on the PCM to have the PCM start using the Performance Mode table (I'd assume you can, but I don't know what pin it is). So, basically, think of the Performance Table as being ignored.

As for the RPM setting, that is the flag that the PCM watches for "Getting Ready to Shift". It will shift based on the MPH setting, but it gets ready to shift based on the RPM. By setting it low, you are getting the PCM ready earlier - which is a good thing. 3k is fine.

HTH,

Andrew

Hey Allen, good to see you got Edit, maybe you can teach me a few things. I am a real slow learner <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> How is your new motor running?
