Default Tuning a stock LS1 a waste of time???

Hi tuning gurus...just wondering if its worth the time and money to have my SS with the 345HP package tuned with LS1 edit and chassis dyno? I can get it done for $300. I understand their may be some benefits, particularly if the car is running rich (which I think my car is running rich from the buildup on my exhaust tips.)

That's a good one.... some will say yes, and some will say no.... if you are running rich and perhaps want to dump torque management and change your fan settings it would be worth it and you may gain a few ponys. Just make sure you are working with an experienced LS1edit tuner and you should be okay

Remember it's your 300....spend it whichever way you want

YankeeSS,
I would say wait until you have a cam and/or headers to have it tuned. The stock tune on these cars is pretty good until you start doing mods. I just Autotaped my basicaly stock 2001 LS1 with only an air box and cat-back. I got an average of 900 mV at WOT, which is really not all that rich. 890 mV seems to be optimum. I get black soot inside my exhaust tips also, but this may be from rich running at cold start-up.

$300 is a great price but remember if you plan on mods that affect AFR dont bother tuning because youll have to get it tuned all over again.if you gain 5-10 hp its worth it.i didnt gain much from it but i gained alot at the track though.

I gained 9 hp and 15 lb ft of torque in about 15 minutes of Fbody Central tuning down here in Md on an 02 M6 WS6 car. Made 325/350.
