Need PCM help. Explanation within.
first I have no engine in my car yet.
I have a 99 hypertech controller that I want to bring back to stock. All that is programmed is the fan and shift point settings. I haven't used this thing for ages but I dug it out the other day to bring back to stock so I could sell the thing.
Well, I plugged the programmer into the diagnostic receptical and turned the tuner on. Everything was going well until it asked me to turn the key on. When I did the programmer turned off. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> I am assuming this happened due to the wiring harness is not hoooked up to anything and maybe not completing some circuits.
That is the first question, what is happening here.
My second question is could I intall my computer into another car and bring the programmer back to stock?
TIA for your help.
Tom

in part of me doing PCM tuning I do it with the PCM in or out of the car.
To use any programmer the ign circuit has to be hot meaning there has to be 12 volts to the pin on PCM for that circuit.
Yes you could hook your PCM to another car to supply the needed grounds, voltage and ADLC connector lines required to make a programmer or a scanner functional.
Of course you could not take like a 98 PCM and put it in a 99 or newer since a 98 had different pinout of wires.

And thanks for the tip on installing my PCM into a 99 and up car to reprogram the hypertech.
