SLP did not modify the ECU.

As for the HPPIII, from what I hear if your car's an auto there's no way you wasted your money. If you've got a manual, then there's not as much it can do for you. The "power program" seems like a hit or miss thing, with some folks posting gains and others losses. Also, if you ever want to put a different rear end gear in there you can always correct the speedo.

actually i think they do test firehawks. I know my friends 2002 SS was tuned. Went to the dyno, and everyone's A/F including my Z was not consistent. Mine goes pretty rich around 6200 rpms, goes down to 12.1. his SS with (slp option lid, center exhaust, auburn rear) stayed flat all the way accross, at about 12.9, then he dynoed 333 rwhp on a stock SS. Anyways, most people don't buy the HPP3 programmer for its tunning mainly, mainly for shift point changes, gears, and so on. Personaly i wouldn't use the tunning.

slp does not modify the ecu's.

And on that 98 hawk, i doubt they did either, as there are 0 official 98 hawks, and from what i hear 8 cars that made it to customers, with the slp parts on them, but not the HAWK RPO code.

If, you are going to use one of the handheld tuners from Diablo, Hpertech and etc you need to keep your stock MAF on. These tuners lean out the car to gain more power. Aftermarket MAF's also lean out the car. Adding them both together will usally cause detonation. I was using Hpertech III with the Granatelli MAF and my car knocked. I call Hypertech and the tech told me to put the stock MAF back on. My knocking went away. Also, I really never gained any more torque from the tuning. I had better shift perforamce but my #'s at the track were the same.

On my 01 T/A WS6 I had the Hypertech power programmer, the SLP 85mm MAF and the air temp module. I never experienced any knocking or detonation. Now that I have the NOS5177 kit I had to remove the air temp module and the went back to the original programming. I haven't noticed any difference in performance. Just my $.02.

The early Firehawks did have computer tuning by SLP, but I don't know about the later models or when they might have stopped doing this. It may have been only the LT1 Firehawks. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> At any rate, I would try and return the HPP3 and get LS1edit.
