Vortec Tuning???

My friend just rebuilt the 5.0 vortec in his 97 c/k pickup and decided to use different heads and a larger cam from crane. He can't get the thing to run and I'm trying to help him figure out what tuning software he can use to tune the ecm for the changes that he made. I have experience using hptuners for gen3 motors but I've never messed around with anything for the older vortec motors. Do any of you guys know what kind of software, if any, can be used on this year truck to compensate for the new cam/heads? TIA!

Tunercat OBD2 supports that vehicle.

Do you know of any forums for tuning the older vortec motors? I checked out the tunercat website but I'm not 100% sure what all he's going to need.
