Default ls1 camaro hyper tech tuner questions, please help!!!

Hello,

I recently purchased a hypertech power programmer 3 for my 99z28 ls1 camaro. Its all stock right now except for taller tires which I have adjusted. I am looking to increase my 1/4 mile time any little bit.(song long as it does not risk damaging engine). Here are my questions:

Should I adjust my rev limter higher from 5,500?
How should I adjust my shift points(any one who has same car specs maybe you increased your 1/4 mile time?)
What percentage should I set my shift firmness to?

Lastly any one know what gears come stock in this car? Im thing 3.23 but not sure.

Any other recomendations or advise from people who have improved their stock e.t using this programmer please let me know. As always thanks, your knowledge is greatly appreciated!!!

When I used one I set shift firmness to 50%, I'd leave the rev limter alone. Shift points will depend on how your car reacts, ratio, mods, and if you use their tune or not (I didn't). Your stock gears are either GU2 (2.73) or GU5 (3.23) - look for the codes on your drivers side door.

To be honest, you'll be lucky to pick up more than .1 sec in the 1/4. Most people will tell you the HPPIII isn't all it's made up to be. As for the settings, the rev limiter should be 6200 (stock). I wouldn't increase shift firmness too much at all (10% above stock max). As long as your not hitting the rev limiter, I'd keep the shift points stock as well (rpm & mph). You can tweak the fan settings even if you don't have an aftermarket stat (I'd put them at the 180* setting). The only other changes are tires/gears and it sounds like you've got that part figured out. Your gear ratio is indicated by the sticker on the inside of the driver's door. If you see GU2, you have 2.73's. GU5 means you have 3.23's.

Hi

I am using one. I have the shift setting at 75%. That does not mean 75% firmer. It only means it is the third setting (50, 75, 100%, etc). I tried 50% and it is was a very mild change. 75% had a firmer shift. I got a small clunk in my rearend at 100%, so I left it at 75%. Its working great at 75%.

With stock cam/heads I do not think raising WOT shift points will help that much. There is not much point in increasing your RPM well above your power band. You peak power is in the mid 5k range.

Now if you could change your partial throttle shift points it would help improve drivability. Shame it only changes WOT shift points.

Thanks JA
