Default Forcing reduced power or limp mode

In cases where alky system loses pressure I'd like to force the car into limp or reduced power mode. The idea is to set a specific resistance (via relays) on either the IAT or ECT. I could richen or drop timing but I'm also wondering if it's possible to force it into limp mode and if so is it safe for the motor.

Any info appreciated..

0 ohms on the ECT circuit will put some cars into overtemp (temp high) protection.

When I dealt w/ an overheating issue a while back the car went into what I think was reduced power mode. Is that overtemp protection? In the PCM there's a parameter called overtemp shutdown time which I think by default had a value of 490 in seconds. Based on that it looks like they're two different things.

Anyone know what actually happens during a shutdown, protection or reduced power/limp mode? I wouldn't want it to be a lean condition or anything..

well the easiest way to find out is set your engine protection values at really low temps (180) and set the shutdown time to like 60 seconds. Then you can just sit there at idle logging and see what happens =D
