Default Low Compression guys, timing ?????

Well I say low. 10.3-1 CR. About how much timing would be needed for this aplication? I was scanning an 01 formula on the dyno & the timing under wot was 21*. That seems way to low. I know on my 408 its 10.7-1 CR & I run between 29-30* with the timing staying straight across the board. No dips or spikes. Just trying to get an idea before I go playing with it.

Thanks!

timing is not a constant b/w any two vehicles, but for fairly stockish compression, a good place to start would be 25 degrees, and then move accordingly based on dyno curve performance, generally 2-3 degrees in one direction. You can tell by the shape of the curve if timing is needed or is too much. Once you are close to optimal, you will notice very little advantage in adding/removing 1 or 2 degrees. Was this 01 pulling KR/running lean/setup for nitrous etc?

Right, but 21*? No knock retard, the AFR was 12.1/11.9-1 on the wideband.

sounds like it's setup for nitrous to me, or FI, if it was intentionally set that way for an NA motor, then that's definitely outside typical LS1 parameters

It has a bottle on it, but mainly ran N/A. I still think 21* is way low for a NX motor. I believe mine still runs around 26* or so with a large shot.

well considering that by general rule of thumb you want to drop 2 degrees per 50 shot, I'd say it's about right where it needs to be A/Fwise and timingwise for nitrous. Most NA 01-02s I've tuned like around 25-27 degrees. You can also setup the timing tables to run lower timing at the higher cyl pressure cells that nitrous pushes you into. That way you have a good range for NA operation, and safe range for nitrous.
