Default Trans SES Light

I have been having an issue with my stock 4L60E lately where the SES light comes on and the car will not shift into 3rd or 4th gear. Once the light is cleared the trans seems to be fine. Is my trans going or is this a tuning issue.
Any help is appreciated.

Default SES light

It sounds as if the sensors in your trans are indeed sending signals outside of tolerances to your PCM, thus the light. You may be experiencing "limp home" shifting as a result. Whether it is a sensor problem or an actual mechanical malfunction won't be known until the codes are defined.
