I've been told that pcm4less can do this.

So it's got another vehicle's VIN in it still? Unless something has changed recently, you're screwed. The only way to clear it is to hook it back up to the original car and put it back to stock since it's got that original car's stock tune stored in it. I got screwed a few years back buying a hpp3 off ebay for cheap. Guy said he put his car back to stock but didn't. Hypertech doesn't offer any kind of reprogramming service either....believe me, I tried.

jmm98 is right, your programmer is useless.

yes there is way

this is what i did

1.go to Oreillys warehouse that flashes computers (or any where that can flash a vin to your computer)
2.flash your computer to the vin in the HPP3
3.install computer in car and the HPP3 will find the correct vin and then you can "return to stock"
4.reflash your computer to your stock vin and program

now i got to do that for free since i worked for oreillys but im not sure of what it might cost you if anything, i think its is $20 for a flash

i did have some issues with getting the HPP3 to work by doing it that way, but i did get it

You also have to program it with the same calibrations the original vehicle/computer had it it. That is stored along with the vin. I do it from time to time, when a guy forgets to put his car back to stock before sending their PCM in.

Good luck, Ed

I was thinking about this once. I thought I saw a place that you could change your Vin through HP Tuners? If so couldnt you just do the same. I have an old hypertech that was not put back to stock and was thinking of doing this to, however the car that was tuned with the hypertech was an auto and my car is a M6 so I didnt want to risk messing something up.

Ed do you have any additional info on what you need to change (high octane/low octane, tire size, gear ratio, etc). If I just saved my current tune, then loaded back the stocker and changed the VIN could I just hook up the hypertech and remove the tune? Then change back to the new tune and be good to go? Would the auto-M6 thing create any issues?

Also be careful to make sure that that tool does not throw a checksum code, or you just killed your 1998 pcm

doing a partial flash or unknown flash on a 98 pcm is risky if the tool does not calculate its own checksums.

Changing the VIN, in a vehicle with a different trans just won't work. They use different calibrations, and the HPP will see it is differet and won't program it. Don't wast your time.

Thats exactly what I thought and why I havent really bothered looking in to what needed to be done. I didnt really feel like risking my PCM or anything just to be able to sell a used hypercrap for like $100. Thanks Ed.
