Default Top speed governor & programmer question

I'll try to keep this as short as I can, thanks to all for your
help and opinions.
I recently picked up an '01 Z28 M6 to use mostly as a dialy driver
but a little fun too :-)
It's got "T" rated tires on it as well as the sticker in the door
( I didn't know they even made the LS1 cars that way!) so I believe
that it's governed at around 118 mph.
I just got some "W" rated tires and want to get a simple handheld
programmer to raise the governor up to where most of these cars were
stock, around the 162 mark. I also want to get the fans to turn on
earlier, otherwise the car will stay mostly stock (except for little
things like a lid & theromstat).
I don't expect anything "performance-wise" from the programmer, just
the fans & governor. My brother in law keeps telling me the Diablo
Predator is the ONLY way to go since it offers more features than the
Hypertech PP3 but from the Diablo site it looks like the standard, out
of the box programmer only does the governor on pick-up trucks. I see that
other places (like SLP) offer the Diablo that's been setup to do the governor
for an LS1 but they're quite a bit more money. I'm not going to mess with
timing, mixture or rev limiter so I thought the Hypertech would be fine to
do what I want, besides being LOTS cheaper...
What do you guys think? If I could find the Diablo that I know would take
care of the governor for about the same price as the HPP3 (about $280 new)
then I might consider it although I really doubt that I'd care about all
the "tuning" crap that it does...like I said, the car will be staying stock.
I'm apprehensive about a used unit because I'd hate to get stuck with one
that I'd have to send back to the manufacturer to be "reset" or whatever
if it's programming is left in another car
Thanks to all!!! This site is GREAT for this kind of stuff!!!

honestly, if you only want those small changes done... you'd be better off w/a mail order tune (unless you plan on changing tire size, but even then alot of mail order tuners offer discounted changes to existing customers, just find out up front)

Mail order tunes go for anywhere from 75-150+ , they'll make the changes you identified and more...

THe handhelds are a nice novelty, but you really don't use them very often after the initial flash...a nd since it sounds like at this time you have no desire to go crazy modding the car, I'd just get a basic mail order and then in the future look at a full tuning suite (see stickies)

How is the mail order tune installed? With a pc? No need for other
software or equipment? I really don't know about these...
Thanks

different companies offer different solutions..

Most require you take the PCM out of your car, send it to them, they make changes onsite then send the PCM back to you. (PCM is the silver looking thing on passenger side of car, 2 connectors bolt to it, it's by the firewall)

Some offer next day services... depending on where you're at, there may be someplace local that you can just drive to, they make the changes to your PCM, then you drive out w/the changes done
