Am i tuned too rich?
i had my car tuned with LS1edit last year, and i put my car on a 5 gas analizer several months ago. my Hydrocarbons were reading 1500 ppm at idle, and my friends say that my car puffs black smoke out of my tail pipes when i stomp on the gas.
since i have a Hotcam and don't have cats i wouldn't have thought twice about it, but my buddy put his 355 carb'ed camaro (24X/24X .630/.630 112 & gutted cats) on the same machine and had 148 ppm HC.
i don't remember my CO2, CO, O2, and NOX levels, but they were typical for a "dirty car" (ie high O2 and NOX)

With a cam and no cats, you're going to run rich. That's the nature of the game.
Black smoke could show a problem of being too rich. But, it's like saying, "I have a cough and runny nose..... am I sick?"
The answer is "maybe."
You've got the symptoms, but you need to find out for sure before just randomly leaning out the car.
