How many of you have done this? What kind of problems can I expect with the new OS?

I've had a tune done for just my cam so I'm wondering which tables I'll most likely have to copy over?

 

been running an 02 binary in my 00 car since I first got HP Tuners over 2 years ago... only thing I do is before Emissions I put my Stock OS in w/my VIN

 

Been running an 02 in my 00 for a while now also with EFILive you can retain your vin even though you are using another years OS. I copied over everything that matched and what didnt i tried to dial it in when i got everything situated and the car running

 

The 02's didn't come with EGR, so will I have to physically take that out? I'm planning on taking it out anyway.

Why is there an EGR parameter in the 2002 operating system when those cars didn't have EGR? Also, there's a backup VE table that's in my 2000 OS, but not in the 2002? Why is that, and what does it do?

Should I copy over my current VE table to the new 2002 OS I'll be using?

After 00 the backup ve table was removed. It makes it easier to tune with greater resolution using the 01-02 OS's (now you only edit on table instead of two). The EGR is still there in the 02 OS and I am pretty sure the harness for the connection is there also hahahaha no worries turn it off andbe done with it. If you copied and pasted all the changes to your secondary tables (which you shouldve) to the primary tables then yes copy the primary ve table from the 00 to the 02 andbe done with it. the main reason most switch to the 02 OS is so that they can run Speed Density (if you don't apply a custom OS) to the car

98-00 used the 2ndary VE table when in Speed Density... it's 1/2 the resolution
But in normal operation whenever VE is needed it will use the primary

01+ don't have a secondary and will use the primary when required (and in SD)

Regarding EGR... gotta remember that GM doesn't write a new OS for every year vehicle... they reuse the OS with tweaks based on the year/bug fixes... so there are TONS of parameters that GM includes in the OS that they don't necessarily use

 

Actually, the ERG calibration data is there because the PCM from 1999-2002 (F-bodies) is the same. You will notice also that 1999 and up LS1 Y-bodies use the same PCM and have the ERG parameters, but Y-Bodies never had EGR.
