Default Programming navi into vehicle, everything works except navi.

Well, I installed a Delphi navigation unit into my GMC Sierra. Everything works, but it will not read the v4.1 navi discs. It states on the unit that it was built sometime in mid 2005. Would that matter as to what type of navi disc it needs and what type it reads? I tried a real navi DVD and a copied one, both do not work. It does NOT recognize it as a real DVD.

My GMC Sierra has the Bose radio and the navi should work in my truck, but does not. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have posted this in the electronics/radio section.

I know if you are not using the right disk it will not work, there are differnant disks for the differnet design/version of the navi systems. If you take the part number off the unit, your local gm dealer should be able to tell you what disk you need. I know those disks cost ALOT form the dealer though.

I was not aware that there are different disks for the different versions of the navi unit. I thought Delphi only made the one touchscreen unit?

I have just heard that I need a 'tech2' flash done to the comp so that it will read the navigation unit. Can anyone who has or has used tech2 confirm this?

I can't remember if the navi unit is programable or not, I know that any other radio has to be programed once replaced. I was told tha navi unit replacement is plug and play, but those vehicles already had navi. Your problem might be that the BCM does not recognize the the navi unit, therefore a flash would be needed. And I was wrong about the disks, any GM disk should work in any unit.

A friend and I tried to reflash the unit with a tech2, but we were unsuccessful. He is not too familiar with the t2, so that may be the case. We did do the 'relearn vin' for the nav unit, but that yielded nothing.

Im at the point where Im just going to take it to a dealer and have deal with it, hopefully they'll give me some lube when I get the bill.

Well to do a flash with the tech 2 you have to have access to GMdealerworld.com and then have all the hook-ups to link the t2 to the desk top. So pretty much only a dealer can flash it anyway. There are a few setup options that the t2 has wich are probably what you used.
