I am real close to installing the drivetrain back in the car. I am gonna see how the Speartech modded harness works out on the stock engine before putting in my MS3 cam. If it doesnt work out the way I hope it will, I will be repinning my 98 harenss, buying a 99+ IC and fuel tank set up. Eigther way I will have RTT in my 98 Z28.

Well I just scored a 2000 gauge cluster with the same mileage as my car for $50. One step closer...

Default 98 fuel gauge can work!

I have successfully done this swap and kept the 98 cluster fuel gauge working. The wiring is already at the PCM and only then requires a custom file. I will be adding a link eventually to my web page with detailed directions on the swap. The file will be availble also.

Sounds very interesting Al,

I look forward to seeing it, if you don't mind sharing the file before it is posted, could I see a copy Ryan212@aol.com

I want to do this swap, and know there has to be a way to do it without changing the cluster and tank.

Thanks

Ryan

Al,
Seriously, will all due respect, how do you change the parameters in the cal file? I can see altering the data in the parameters. 98 has 15.5 steel tank and 99+up has bigger plastic tank thus, the parameters are different. Are you doing a ratio scaling of the values? I am interested as everybody else is. My hat is off to you for figuring this out. I guess I was just in a hurry to get things done and didn't think that hard about it. As I was already swapping the rear and I thought What the hell swap the tank and upgrade the pump and wiring too. I am all for making these swaps as easy as possible for 98 owners. There are myriad of reasons to upgrade to later operating systems.

Without knowing exactly what they are doing, it could be changing a function in the pcm that switches between a pwm output of the pcm to the fuel gauge, and a class 2 output.
