Default "Service Air Bag"

Folks,

I was driving to work today in the 04 GMC Seirra, and my service air bag light come. What is the deal? Can this be reset or has a part or sensor failed? Can anything be looked over with HPT?

Got Home and here is the scan results...... Where is the BCM, I thinks its under the steering wheel, I did remove all the connectors and disconnected that, and the battery for 30 minutes. I think the BCM is bad.

Clear the codes and see which ones come back on. Post the codes that come back as current. It looks like you may have unplugged some things with the key on based on all those u codes. Yeah the BCM is to the left of the steering column, but the diagnostic checks for SIR are performed by the SDM not the BCM.

I clear the codes and those all come back instantly. I can clear them as fast as I can click and they come back. This all happened while driving so nothing was unplugged while the key was on. So under the dash I have about 3 modules. One is which, directly under the steeing wheel is one with about 7 connectors 5 big connectors and 2 small ones. Then a smaller module right by the emergency brake, has 3 connectors.

Well, if your using HPT you can't clear out codes stored in the BCM, or any other module besides the PCM so your kinda limited here. It looks like B0051 and B0053 are going to be the starting point, cause they are the only current codes.

Is the truck still under warranty?

The module with 3 plugs is the tranfer case control module, the BCM is about 5"x6"x1" mounted horizontaly to the left of the column.

I do believe you will need a Tech 2 to perform those functions. If the truck is indeed still under warranty why not let the dealer handle it?

EFILIve scan tool will erase all module codes. It would be cheaper than a tech 2.

I doubt they will say anything, most techs won't even notice you changed the fans. And most will overlook the other stuff, cause it has nothing to do with your problem.

It looks to me like it's going to need an SDM, those usually cost about $500 and they are a "restricted item" meaning the dealership has to call in and explain how they came to the conclusion that it needs to be replaced. And then it has to be programed with a tech II after it's replaced.

I'm pretty sure it's under the drivers seat, there should be a slit in the carpet to allow access. It has a big yellow plug on it. It may be under the passenger seat, I can't remember.

The air bag diagnostic module sounds like it craped out.It should be under the pass seat or drivers seat.If you replace it chances are it will have to be reflashed at the dealer. They use to be plug in play but gm doe's not sell them as a plug in play anymore.
