My car has thrown that a couple times over the last few years...just deleted it and usually won't come back on. It can be a PITA though, look up the diagnostics at www.gearchatter.com for your year.

Sounds like you answered your own question for the most part.
Check: Plugs, wires, and coil packs for starters.

If you have a scanner that can access freeze frame data, wait for the check engine light to come on and check the freeze frames for which cylinder(s) are misfiring. P0300 is hard to figure out as its not occurring enough to normally catch and diag. like a spark plug, wire, injector, etc. The freeze frame data will show you a "snapshot" of when the misfire happened, like throttle position, rpm, engine temp. etc. You can diagnose it from there, if you take it somewhere do not clear the check engine light as this will clear the freeze frame data and someone will either wait for it to come on again or throw various parts at it at your expense . Good luck.

If you can get ahold of a scanner that can do a power balance and see what cylinder(s) are dropping off.

my friend had that code when he was having problems with his crank position sensor, could be your problem as well.
