mail order tuning

I do not have any experience yet with tuning for the LS1, but have some thoughts.
It would seem to me that if you have changed cams that you are wanting the best performance you can get. It would also seem to me that in order to get that, with a 'non-stock' cam, it would be hard to do mail order, as I would suspect that seeing the results to changes, dynamically, would be required...at least for the best tune.
In my case, I'm going with a stock engine in my conversion, so I will probably be going with a mail order tune. I would recommend getting feedback on your mail order tuner, and not just go with the cheapest.
As for doing it myself, I woudl too. But that requires expensive software, and experience I don't have...or a lot of studying and trial and error. For not racing, I'd just as soon go with a reputable mail order tuner.
In the end, it somewhat depends on what your goals are.
