Both can control boost controllers, complete timing control and 2 step. They also have timers for nos, which can be very usefull on small tire cars.
I have had a gen7 DFI and a BS3 now. The Gen7 was nice and had very nice software but fell short on the hardware end for LS1s. BS3 is nice since its all in one box, software is kind of clunky but it works, hardware is vey good though and seems to have pretty hot spark. I have played with the FAST software and it seems OK but honestly I'm not real familier with the XFI on an LS1.
I'm pretty sure the XFI uses the EDist box still to decode the stock crank signal, my thought on the whole thing is I wanted as little extra boxes/wires as possible and the BS3 is all in one. They pretty much all do the same thing, when spending that much for a standalone its the safest bet to run what most of the faster LSx guys are running. Nothing more frustrating then having your car sidelined the whole season because of something you put on and paid a lot of money for to be 'better' then stock. Most guys here are using the BS3 from what I gather, its very possible there are a bunch of good running LSx cars running the XFI/EDist also but I chose to stick with what people are using. I may be missung a few features but the car is going down the track every weekend without fail with the BS3.
