Does the PCM monitor the low oil level sensor?
I've got a 2001 LS1. Pin 70 on the C1 connector (BLUE) runs to the oil level sensor (switch) on the passenger's side of the oil pan. It's a normally closed switch that opens when the oil level drops below the sensor. The sensor completes the circuit to ground when it's closed.
I know that the dash oil light is driven by a small computer that gets data from the PCM over a serial link. What I need to know is does the PCM actually monitor the oil level or simply pass the info on to the dashboard? For instance, is there an action that the PCM will take if it sees a low oil condition while the engine is running (like shut down the motor)?
Thanks!

There are quite a few parameters for low oil pressure around engine protection, but I don't see anything that would effect actual engine performace based on low pressure in the PCM. Guess it's a catch 22. Low pressure will kill your motor a lot faster than the PCM could help you, but at least you'll get a light.
