I am in the exact same situation you are in for my 02 Trans AM. Vortech REFUSES to sell a programmer separate and ALL the aftermarket programmers WON'T sell a tune for this system. The responses I am getting is to use LS1 edit or HP Tuner, but I also would need a base tuning program to start. Any luck?

Be very careful learning to tune on a boosted-stock-bottom-end setup...

Why not not just pony up the money and have it tuned so you can drive, enjoy, and not stress it? ...can't be much more than the handheld you are looking for and will make more HP as well.

I retuned an M6 C5 with a vortech and a handheld Vortech tune... Went from 433-435rwhp to 480rwhp at 11.4:1. I wanna say this is about 6psi.

I strongly agree. Tuning a FI car, if you dont know what you're doing, can be all out dangerous.
I also agree with the differences in custom tuning versus hand helds or mail orders. I've done some FI cars that the difference was 60-80 hp and similar in torque over hand helds and mail orders.
