Default Spark

What is the difference in the idle spark advance tables vs the main spark tables?

Based on the settings in your PCM, the car will use the idle tables instead of the main tables. Usually, it's based on less than 1.19% throttle and less than "x" mph. Autos usually have a low mph and manuals usually have an obsurdly high mph (255). Basically, it's off-throttle (idle) vs on-throttle timing.

so, the main spark table is used when I am on the gas greater than 1.19% (or what ever I have mine set to) and idle spark is in control when ever I am not on the gas under both the throttle and mph enable figures?

you know it sounds that simple, but when logging the spark advance, it is hard to distinguish what table the pcm is working off of. I read that you should make all of the tables the same ( I think I will try and see if that works).
On your timing tables do you have a general area (group of cells) with one numeral (27 degrees) or do you have various degrees in a general area?

Again, log the approriate .pids and you can see which spark table is contributing what. If you look at just the final number, you can be playing a guessing game as to how the final spark was determined.

There are some spots on my timing table where a group of nearby cells all have the same values. This is mainly limited to WOT and off-throttle deceleration. The idea of doing this is, it ensures a specific value is commanded for a certian aspect of driving. When decelerating, I found that my car likes about 40* of timing under 2,000rpm. To keep it from jumping around, I have 40* of timing for 1,400-2,000rpm and anything less than .24 grams/cylinder. The effect is the appearance of a flat spot.

See below...cam is 232/238 with P&P 241 heads.
