VSS Question

VSS Question The pcm on my car was originally programmed for a T56 VSS. I am switching to an automatic that doesn't/can't have a vss bolted directly to it. I can get an aftermarket vss that puts out 4000 ppm, digital signal, that will mount onto the orginal speedo cable ouput. What programming changes will have to be made to the pcm for this to work.

You answered your own question ...
In the PCM you can set the Pulse Per Mile to 4000 and you should be good. You do not need an "auto" PCM, they are the same. Just the clibration file that is flashed on there is different, it takes a meare 20 seconds to change that.

Verdad Gallardo Yeah you are a ok you can run a stock gm sender in it. Pull the tail housing off and get you a vss sender and reluctor ring for an 88-95 fullsize chevy pickup knock off the stock gear and then use a pipe thats larger than the output shaft and tap down the reluctor ring until it hits the notch the stock plastic gear was seated against. I did this on my monte when I ran a vortec 350 and a th350 tranny. It will work perfect as gm intended without any guessing.

Unfortunatly, I can't do that either. The 200-4R doesn't have a removable tail housing. The speedometer drive gear goes onto the governor. It's a poor design, but, at least it's the only tranny that chevy made that way. I may just go back to a mechanical speedo and not even run a vss. I found a post telling how to program the pcm without it.
