Default Air & Fuel adjustments ? ? ?

Is there a cheap alternative to adjusting the fuel & air to mix without having to get it tuned? I plan on the tune but the car backfires and idles so bad I would be scared to pull it on a trailer.

There are some alternatives to adjusting the AFR at part throttle and at WOT. Obviously, getting it tuned is the best option. The MAF Translator is a decent option. It has two adjustments for part throttle and WOT. All it does is manipulate the reported airflow from the MAF to the PCM. This could be a temporary option until you get it tuned. Even with the MAFT, you would need to log the car to properly adjust the MAFT.

how would you go about doing this? i honestly just want to drive it a little before i leave for iraq

I have no clue the guys who did the install said it was part of needing a tune. It would only backfire at low rpms when it would feel like it was about to die and then kick up again.The mods are as follows that were done:

- G5X1 228/232 .588 .574 112 cam
- LS6 Heads lightly ported & polished
- Comp 918 Springs
- ThunderRacing 7.4 Pushrods
- LS7 Lifters
- LS6 Intake
- LS6 Oil Pump
- Ported & Polished w/Bump Stop
- ThunderRacing MAF
- LS2 Timing Chain
- MSD Wires
- NGK TR55 Plugs

at least get yourself a mail order tune...a maf t will cost you about the same as a mail tune and will probably get your car to idle much better then just a maf t ever could.

With those mods, tuning is required. The MAFT will not be able to adjust for those mods.
