Default Driving the car without the instrument cluster?

I didnt know where to post this question so I thought it would best fit the one with all the electrical gurus.

I pulled my instrument cluster to get it signed and wont have it back this weekend but I would like to take the car to a local show this Saturday.

Will anything happen if I drive the car without the cluster?

I've done it before on other GMs, might set a bcm code now that I think of it. But I never thought about checking. the I/P is just a module feed off the bcm and pcm, you;ll be paranoid but the car will be fine, assuming the car don't loose oil pressure that day lol

Do not attempt this. Your alternator turn on/ charge the battery signal, on the 98s comes from the Instrument Cluster.

I did it up and down the street a couple of times [1.5 days] in a 99+ and upon plugging it back in there were no security problems.

Thanks for the reply, I have to admit I didnt quite believe you until I did some further checking and turns out your right. Only in 98 does the cluster control the charge to the batt. You saved me from a road side wrecker call.

Thanks!
