by unplugging your MAF sensor your in Speed density mode which rely's mainly on your VE table which is what would be tuned in SD mode.

I have been running SD for a couple of years. No MAF to tune.

I have been running in speed density for a couple weeks now.I made the switch because i will installing a ported fast 90/90 and dont want any restrictions, including a MAF sensor.I have not been able to tell the difference between the two since i switched.I may have picked up a few ponies up top but cant tell.Idles the same and everything. With the new speed density OS,you can make a really large sized cam idle and drive great.

Plenty of pros for going SD
Improved Throttle response
More Power
Better Fuel economy
1 less thing to break
Opens up more options for intake designs

Cons.
Acurate fueling is more time consuming to achieve
Can be suseptible to atmospheric drift if not tuned accuratly.

Myths. SD tunes must be retuned for different climates and altitudes. This is sort of true, but the main curplet is inlet temp for VE drift. But thats why we have custom OS's with fields to adjust for this. Altitude. The PCM knows barometric pressure so it compensates for such occasions.
