OBD II plugin problem

i tried a search but anyway i had my car tuned and it runs great , i threw a code the other day though (car still runs good) but I tried scanning from autozone obd2 reader and it will not work it just does not turn on the code reader when plugged in, i tried two different ones.. also my buddies hptuners cable now does not work it can not read port or something along those lines is what it says. anybody experienced this before? i need to check for a loose wire or something but i dont see how, I ve rarely used the port cause i never get codes, and its in a good spot to where i dont think I have kicked or messed with it to ajar anything, help please
