Default not getting cam position sensor signal/tach is dead

i just did a 402ci LS2 swap in my formula, its at livernois to get tuned and they said they arent getting a signal from the cam position sensor, i know its the right cam sprocket, the ls2 front cover, and im using the katech extension harness, livernois told me they think its something to do with the katech harness maybe, they arent sure.

also my tack is dead, i have my shiftlight wired into the tach wire from my pcm and they though that might have cause the tach to be dead but i had the shift light in there last year too.

any ideas on what i should look for, do you think something could be wrong in the extension harness?

please help because my car has been sitting there for 4 weeks to get tuned and now they have finally gotten to it and now i have to go through this bullshit

i had the same problem and couple days ago, and guess what it was? it wasn't plugged in... it would start and caugh back but the check engine light kept saying low cam positioning output or something like that... but i pulled the manifold and it wasn't plugged in... but this was on a simple ls1 so might info might not help you...

i dont know what they have checked and looked at, i doubt the really looked at the whole circuit, im going to talk to them tomorrow and see what they say, its easy to see if its plugged in because its on the front cover, but it also plugs into the tock harness towards the back of the motor where the stock sensor is.

i hope i can figure this out soon

Run a search. This happens to everyone that does this swap with a Katech harness. The end 2 wires in the plug going to the cam sensor need to be swapped. 1st verify that it is plugged in in the front of the motor(pass side front) and the back of the motor( to the old sensor). There are two plugs because the front is a test plug for testing the cam sensor. If both are plugged in then the 2 end wires need to be swapped. I have seen this 3 times now.

i though katech already swapped the wires so i didnt have to, i heard when people make their own extensions that they swap the wires, which is why i bought katechs extension, cause it should be plug and play

but are you saying there are two plugs in the front cover that i could plug the harness into, i really didnt look at it.

now you only need to find out if you got voltage at the cam sensor harnes. your problem is the two end wires, they need to be swaped. I say a good 70% of people who do the ls2 swap run into this problem

well the only thing i can think of is swapping the 2 end wires, which kind of defeats the purpose of buying the katech extension so i wouldnt have to cut anything.

hopefully thats the problem

Dont use the small harness that is on the timing cover, that is where the wires are swapped (I have no idea why GM does this). Just plug your Katech harness straight into the cam sensor without using the short harness and you will be fine.....

He is correct. I went and looked at mine and it was the mini harness that needs modification. Just remove it like he said and plug the Katech straight to the sensor.

well i told them to skip the little harness and plug the katech harness into the sensor, but they said the harness is to short and will not reach. so they are swapping the 2 wires right now.

hopefully they call me back in a few minutes with how it goes. im praying to god that that is the problem
