Default Rev limiter limits??

Is there a limit to how far you can raise the rev limiter? or can it be completely removed?

in my 02 had the rev limit at 6700 but shifted it arround 6500 i asked simlar questions on this site like 5 times and the results i go varied greatly. after a good deal polling what ive come up with is most would say 6200-6300 rpm is highest ud wanna go as far as shifts. the drivetrain might be able to take more and it might not some have had falures some have had luck hypertech told me 66 shift with rev 67. basically waht ive found in my car is you can kinda hear and feel a slight difference in the car over 63 ish and i decided thats all it wants. as far as making power hypertech says all the way up to 6500 is good most say 6000 to 6300 some say arround 5500 is it from looking at dynos of stock cars it appars that 6300 would give you the greatest ammount of continuous hp. so all in all your gonna get alot of varied answers or atleast i did i ran mine up to 6500 like 8 times and then decided to stick with 6300 this seems to work the best with me until i get a cam that will make power higher up as far as when something is gonna break most would say you will first break a spring if you over rev it. what ive red most people, and the mag did exclusively refer to ls1tech.com, have problems cause they improplrly match equipment not beacouse they over rev their engines.

You can raise the limiter as high as you want (over 7000rpm at least) but a better question is why would you want to do that; you will definitly blow your engine at some point. A stock LS1 makes peak HP at about 5500rpm so the stock rev limit at 6200rpm is just fine. If you upgrade the cam and valve train you can get HP beyond 7000 rpm depending on the cam. But if you shift an LS1 with stock low end at over 6700rpm, you will have engine damage sooner or later. ARP con rod bolts will extend the safe rpm some, but forged rods and crank would be the way to go if want to rev over 6700rpm.

I want to because the engine is FAR from stock and I needed to know what the limits on setting the rev limiter are, if any. I have a 408ci ironblock, fully forged internals, T&D rocker arm, going to have a solid roller cam, all of that stuff. once we get the flow numbers on the heads we are going to design the cam and I wanted to be sure I was able to stay in the power band if we decide to make it a 7500rpm motor

The table limit for timing functions is 8000 and for PE/RPM fueling is 7200. I wouldn't take the car past that unless you had some other management system in place than the stock PCM.

I have a large cam with built motor, too. If I want to take it to the limit, I shoot for between 6800 and 7000 RPMs. That allows for an occasional overshoot to around 7200.

A 408 motor should be all done at 6800
DYNO it and see where it starts to put on brakes.
I guess after 6500 would be just a waste.
Good luck with the 7500 biggggggggg heads and bigggggggg cam maabe a FAST A/F management system
