02's and tuning

Do you need 02's to tune a drag car with a sd tune?

By having your O2s you don't have to be as picky or perfect (tuning) on the lower VE idle/driving regions, the computer will keep you at 14.7

Just spend more time tuning in the WOT areas.

To answer your question. No you do not. If your engine has a large cam or open exhaust 02 sensors will give you phoney readings anyway. SD you are not using them anyway unless you are closed loop.

I use the stock narrowband o2's to build the low rpm/part throttle VE table and the wideband for WOT.

Speed Density = Not using MAF

Closed loop = using O2
Open loop = not using O2

You can have combo's of the above like:

MAF + closed loop = factory config
MAF + open loop = using MAF but not O2
SD + closed loop = Not using MAF but using O2
SD + open loop = Not using MAF or O2

So I'll answer the original poster's question with a question....

Which setup are you using?

Ideally you'd want a wideband to tune a drag car since the factory O2's are pretty useless at WOT
